The Literary Picnic '09

On Sat. June 20th, our family participated in the annual Literary Picnic at the Library. Grandma Susy, Spirit Woman was asked to come this year and do a presentation on Native Americans and tell some of their story legends.

She did a great job, and kept the kids interested by showing them some of the things Indians made,
Teaching an Indian dance,

(Miss Sally dressed up too and read some Indian stories.)
and by teaching us about Indian drums and letting some of the kids play them.

Great job, Grandma Susy!

As always the kids had to have their face painted, and Soda Pop the Clown can paint your face anyway you want.
Ellie's Rainbow and Unicorn face,
Weston and Ray went with the Scary Skull face.
and Bekah looks like a Tiger!
As you can tell it rained on us a bit(a lot)!
However, that didn't stop the Little Mermaid(Miss Sally) from having a great time!
Bubble blowing was a big hit!
Especially, the bubble machine!
Ray thought the Juggle Nuts guy was pretty cool too!
He even gave Ray a lesson.
All in all we had a good turn out for a RAINY day.
We sold maybe 100 snow-cones, for Friends of the Library, but it was a lot of fun!

Bekah's 7th Birthday!

Bekah's birthday was on Wed. June 17th, unfortunately that was the day that we took the Cub Scouts to day camp. However, her Grandma Berg saved the day by taking Bekah and all her cousins to the Kangaroo Zoo!
The next day, Thursday we gave her this new swim suit and goggles and took her and her cousins to the Kamas Pool! They had a blast playing together and I forgot the camera.

Friday was finally a nice day, so we had her party that evening.
She had a Pirate Party-complete with her own pirate treasure!

It was a fun cake to make!

Bekah's friends and cousins
(cw)Aunt Jessi, holding Chloe, & Sophia,Bekah, Hannah, Weston holding Abram, Brieanna, Mason and Ellie

My brother Jacob and his wife Jessi and their family are visiting from Switzerland. It's been fun to see them and get to know their kids.
Ray missed the cousin picture, but he was there, Gramie and Grandpa Vic were able to come also.
Bekah with one of her favorite presents-a dream catcher
Bekah and her best friend, Hannah!
Bekah and her favorite cousin friend, Brieanna.
Bekah with her very own Rendezvous box made by Grandpa Blaine.
It's always a great present when Gramie puts money in your account!
Thanks for all the awesome presents!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BEKAH!
We love you!

The effects of Black frosting!
Abram's face
Brieanna's tongue!

Mother/Daughter Summer Book Club

Ellie and I joined the Summer Book Club at the library. The 1st book is one of our favorites Dragon Slippers by Jessica Day George. We really had a fun time reading it again together.
Ellie and I pose for our picture! She is dressed up as Creel, the heroine of the book and I'm a dragon named Feniul.
Even though this book has a girl for the heroine it is about fighting and of dragons. So even Conner, my friends son, thought it was cool.
For our discussion mtg. my friend, Miss Sally transformed the library in to King's Seat, the setting for most of the book. In the clothe district, we made our own pair of Dragon Slippers.
We played dress-up in Dreda's Dress Shop.
Miss Sally, dressed up as Creel, and Anna, as Princess Amalia with her little dog Pippen.
Ellie and I both had a great time, and Ellie really liked making her very own dragon slippers. Part of the discussion was "What would you like your Dragon Slipper magic to be?" The kids had some good ideas like being able to fly, and getting their homework done, however the mothers ideas were great, the laundry done in the blink of an eye, clean magic-everything stays clean, beam me up magic-to never be late, and for all the gross health food (rice cakes) to taste like chocolate.

A Baptism, A Blessing, and Weston's Mohawk!

Last weekend my niece Emma got baptized. We were so glad to be able to be a part of her amazing day. They moved here last summer from CA., and it has been a fun year having them here in UT. We are so proud of you Emma, for the great example you are to all your cousins. There couldn't been a more sweet, loving, and caring girl around!

Here she before her baptism, in her pretty white dress.
And after, positively glowing!

The next day, Sunday, Emma's little brother, Reed was given a name and a blessing.

He is such a good baby.
It was such a great emotional, spiritual, family fun weekend.
My cup runneth over!

On another note- Here is my son Weston sporting his summer Mohawk!
We had to shave it off before church!
He thinks he looks pretty darn cool!

What's more SUMMER than Baseball?

You would think that Summer and Baseball were two of a kind,
However, check out the spectators in their jackets and long pants!
Weston played for the Indians this year. It's his 1st year in AAA baseball.
He is a great batter, and has had some good hits this season!
Check out all the snow still on Timp.
Weston plays outfield, and it's not because he isn't a good player. He pays attention while he's out there and has helped make some great double plays.
Not very many pictures this year because of all the Rainy games.

Speaking of rainy games. At one of Ellie's games this week, the High School Freshman Boys team was playing in the field next to our game, and it was raining so hard that the freshman game got called, but the girls softball didn't, we just kept playing through the downpour.
Just goes to show ya GIRLS are TOUGHER than Boys!
Ellie played on the Mets softball team this year.
She is becoming quite the little player! She's a great hitter and base stealer!
She picked # 11 because she's 11 yrs. old.

She enjoys playing softball and has made some new friends on this years team too!
Her team likes to cheer for each other when the go up to hit.
One of their cheers goes like this.

We don't wear no miniskirts-Repeat
We just wear our softball shirts-Repeat
We don't drink no lemonade-Repeat
We just drink our Gatorade-Repeat
We don't play with Barbie dolls-Repeat
We just play with bats & balls-Repeat.

My favorite is:
Ellie is her name and softball is her game.
She got a homer on her mind, and Whooo!
She's lookin' fine!

It's been a great season for baseball, just a lil' bit too rainy for this Mom fan!

Baskets of Friendship-Design Challenge Quilt

The design challenge this year for Quilt Guild was called Baskets of Friendship!
We all had to make a 9 in. block then we swapped them, made 3 more basket blocks, added flowers, and then made a quilt or wall hanging.
This is the block that my friend and fellow quilter, Joan DeFrieze made.
I added the flowers to it.

This is my favorite. Gotta love that purple!
This quilt was quite a trial for me, the blocks ended up being different sizes, which made the sashing a bit difficult, however it turned out BEAUTIFUL in the end.

I even tried a flower quilting design instead of just stippling. I'm learning a lot and gaining more confidence. I gave this quilt to Aunt Kathryn for her Birthday.

End of May Fun!

Memorial Day '09
As always, we went to breakfast at Whiskey Springs.
It was really good and I even remembered to bring the Ketchup this year.

The Kids had fun feeding & taking pictures of the squirrels, going up the nature trail a bunch of times, and even going up to the rock slide with Aunt Kathryn.
Some of the girls thought it would be fun to pile on Uncle Scott too!

Weston, Bekah, and Ray pretending to ride Uncle Chris' motorcycle.
We had a car washing party before this but I couldn't get the pics to load in order.
Washing the jeep with Chris and Tiesha.
Bekah and Ellie washing the motor bike.
When car washing turns into water fighting!

Last Day of School Fun!
We decided to go over to Grandma Berg's for the last day of school water party.
Dillon Mecham had his pool out too, so the kids had fun playing their too. The kids each got to bring a friend. Ellie's friend couldn't come so she just hung out with her cousins.
Ray on the slip n slide!
Weston and Gunner having a water fight.
Sam going down the slip n slide.
Bekah and her friend(cousin) Hannah
on the slip n slide.

Sarah, Hannah's mom and I just got made V.T. partners, so we have been hanging out again getting caught up, and letting the girls play. It was a fun day!
